Learners | How many driving lessons

How many lessons will you need before you are test ready?

Probably one of the most common questions we get asked is "how many lessons will I need", and although it's difficult to advise people over the phone, or without seeing their driving, good instructors should be able to give you a fairly accurate guide within 2 to 3 hours of assessing your driving knowledge and skills.

But all too often when people ask the question of how many lessons will I need, they are answered with "how long is a piece of string or you shouldn't need too many, wink, wink...

But in reality you should be given a guide of how many lessons you might require so that you can plan your budget and set your goal target for when you should expect to be taking your driving test.

Below is a table that was released by the DVSA over 5 years ago, who are the goverment body responsible for theory and driving tests in the UK. This is the only record from the  DVSA that will give you an indication of how many driving hours you will need.

Please note that this is only a guide, and it's an average across the UK.

60 plus 47-onwards 69 onwards 88 onwards  100 onwards

Of course you won't know how quickly you'll pick things up until you try it for yourself. Which is why we offer you a try us deal, so that you can get behind the wheel and find out if you're a natural, plus it will give your instructor enough time to  assess your knowledge and skills.

If you're enthusiastic and want to continue with your instructor, they will provide a learning struture with achievable goals so that you can learn at your own pace.

Try Us options

If you haven't driven previously, then by taking our 9 hour try us deal, your instructor will give you a good indication of how many lessons you will need to get test ready within the first few hours, and then develop a challenging program to get you there within the quickest, a safest time.

If you have some previous driving experience you can take our 3 hours try us deal as an assessment. This will give your instructor enough time to assess your existing abilities and tailor a program of lessons that doesn't go over old subjects that you've already learnt wasting time.

Intensive Driving Courses:

Book one of our assessment lessons if you are planning a driving course. We will structure your assessment so that we can learn as much about your driving skills as possible while at the same time giving you our full support.

It's important that we are able to assess how many hours you will need before you book and pay for an intensive course.
